RACE INFORMATION

The Okpekpe Road Race invites world-class runners from around the world in a tradition to intermix local recreational and up and coming runners with the best of the best. The invitation extended to all CAA Member Federations, all military and para-military have sent in entries

The starts line is on Apana Road.
The finish line will be at Okpekpe

PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES

Nigeria, United States of America, South Africa, China, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

COURSE

The Okpekpe Road Race starts in Apana Road and ends in Okpekpe, Edo State.
Okpekpe is famous for its position on the hilltop in the Edo North Senatorial district and its huge agricultural and investment potential and quite a suitable tourism destination.

DISTANCE

10 Kilometres over hills and tarred Roads

GETTING TO THE START

All participants and spectators that are driving are advised to park along Apana road up to the parking lot. There will be extensive road closures in place. you can not drive to the immediate areas near the start, as this will create extensive traffic congestion and delays in getting to the start. Please come early to avoid any rush or delays, No bikes will be allowed, any bike found at the racing premises will be seized.
Buses will be available to convey runners from Fatima secondary schools to the start line.

ELIGIBILITY

Must have been duly registered, passed medical test and sign the waiver.

RUNNING NUMBER COLLECTION

Running Numbers must be collected on the following dates at Uyi Grand Hotel and Suites
Tuesday May 21st- 9.00am to 6.00pm
Wednesday May 22th – 9.00am to 6.00pm
Thursday May 23rd– 9.00am to 6.00pm
Friday May 24th- 9.00am to 2.00pm
PLEASE NOTE: Everyone is advised to collect their own run number in person and provide proof of identity. If you are having difficulty collecting your own running number we are allowing you to designate another person to collect on your behalf. In order to do this the person collecting on your behalf must have a printout copy of the form or the final confirmation received by e-mail. They must have proof of their identity in order to do this.

PRIZE MONEY

Financial prizes would be given to 8 people who come tops in the race and top 5 Nigerian Athletes

T/SHIRTS, MEDALS AND CERTIFICATES

All participants will receive a running race vest, number bibs, and chips.
Finishers will receive medal and certificate.
The temperature will be approximately 24-29degrees Celcius, cloudy, a couple of showers at the start.

RACE TIMING

The race will be timed using the “Time Tronics electronic timing system. Chips/Tags may be attached to the race bib number you will receive in your race pack. Do not remove this tag from your bib number.timing will be based on a mat to mat timing, there will be no need to rush. ( your time will start when you cross the mat)

DRINK STATIONS – WATER

Water Stations will be provided at 2.5km,5km,7.5km, and at the finish.

SPONGES/REFRESHMENT

Sponges /refreshments will be provided at: 5km

TOILETS

Toilets will be provided after the following stations on the location on the route: start, 5km, 7.5km and at the finish.

MEDICAL

An Ambulance and medical station will be available approximately 200 metres after each main drink station on the route at 2.5km,5km, 7.5km and at the finish. Medics will also be present at every intermediary station.

ROUTES & MAPS

Route tour will be available on the 24th of May by 4.pm

TECHNICAL MEETING

Technical meeting will take place at NEZER hotel on Friday 24th of May by 2pm, at the meeting elite runners will receive bib numbers and chips, they may also submit their waters and drinks.

ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION

BLOCKAGE AND ACCESS RULES (FROM JATU)
1. Full blockage at Apana Hospital point from 12 midnight Friday, May 24
2. All vehicles, bikes etc to stop at Apana Hospital point.
3. Standby shuttle buses, stationed at Fatima Colledge Jatu, and the hotels will shuttle participants between Jatu and Start line parking.
4. Participants with private vehicles and bikes are all to park at Apana Hospital point and use the shuttle bus.
5. Vehicles with ‘VIP PASS’ will be allowed access to WARM UP AREA.
6. Vehicles with ‘VVIP PASS’ to be allowed Access to start line PARKING LOT.
BLOCKAGE AND ACCESS RULES (FROM OKPEKPE TOWN)
1. No vehicles, bikes, etc will be allowed access to the start line from 12 midnight Friday, May 24.

PRIVACY POLICY

1. The organizer and co-organizer observe all applicable laws concerning privacy protection and the handling of personal information. The collected data will be used for race eligibility screening, the making and updating of program booklet and the official website, publicizing race finishing times. Furthermore, these data will serve as contact information for the race management headquarters.
2. The race may broadcast on television and stream as Internet video.
3. The moving images, photograph, articles, and the personal records of the race may be used in the advertising materials such as booklets and posters, and be placed in the media such as TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, and Internet.The organizers, co-organizers, and any organizer-approved third party may execute it for promotional and race management purposes.
