Okpekpe Road Race: I didn’t know I’ll win, says Pam

Deborah Pam, the fastest Nigerian female at the just-concluded 5th Okpekpe 10km Road Race yesterday said she did not believe she would win because she was just recovering from an injury.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Bronze label road race held on May 13 in Okpekpe Town in Edo.

Pam said in an interview in Lagos that her success was due to consistent training when she was injury free.

Miss Nigeria takes Green-Girl project to Okpekpe race

Reigning Miss Nigeria,Chioma Stephanie Obiadi has signed on to run at next month’s International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Bronze Label Okpekpe international 10km road race to raise awareness about the Green-Girl project,a Miss Nigeria initiative aimed at empowering young women to become agents of sustainable environment in Nigeria.

With this project,Miss Obiadi,also the reigning Miss Anambra 2016 and a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University who was crowned late last year as the 40th Miss Nigeria  will be engaging young people and girls in schools/communities across Nigeria.

Prize money outlay for the fifth edition of the race

Organisers of the annual International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Bronze Label Okpekpe international 10km road race have announced the prize money outlay for the fifth edition of the race which holds this Saturday in Okpekpe near Auchi,Edo state.

 Spokesman for the race,Dare Esan revealed that a total of $92,000 in prize money will be paid to the top eight finishers in the men and women’s race with the winner in each gender category going home with $15,000 while $10,000 and $7,000 respectively will go to the second and third placed finishers.

Cheprot Seeks to Make History at Okpekpe

Kenya’s Simon Cheprot will be hoping to make history as the first man to successfully defend the men’s title when the fifth edition of the IAAF Bronze Label Okpekpe International 10km Road Race gets underway next weekend in Okpekpe near Auchi in Edo State.

Eight Countries Confirm for 5th Okpekpe Road Race

Elite athletes from as many as eight countries will participate in next weekend’s fifth Okpekpe International 10km Road Race in Okpekpe, Etsakor East Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to Spokesman for the race, Dare Esan, the countries who have confirmed their participation include; Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Tanzania, Morocco, Turkey, Burundi  and of course the host nation, Nigeria.

Full Doping Control at 5th Okpekpe Road Race

Organisers of the Fifth Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have promised that there will be full doping control during the race scheduled to hold in a fortnight at Okpekpe, Edo State.

Spokesman for the race, Dare Esan, revealed on Tuesday that provisions have been made for a full doping control for the event which the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has classified as the only international competition/road race in Nigeria in 2017.

Ecobank MD Signs on for Okpekpe Race

The Managing Director of Ecobank, Charles Kie, has signed on for the fifth Okpekpe international 10km race scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 13 in Okpekpe, Edo State.

Kie registered his name for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Bronze Label race thursday at the bank’s corporate headquarters in Lagos and revealed he will be running to create awareness about a clean environment to give support to the Green-Girl project which the reigning Miss Nigeria, Chioma Stephanie Obiadi will be projecting at the Okpekpe race

INEC embraces Okpekpe race

Independent National Electoral Commission Commissioner for Information Technology in  the South-South  Mustafa Lecky has joined the list of celebrity runners who  have registered for the  Okpekpe International 10km Road Race.

The race takes place  in Okpekpe,  Edo State,  on May 13.

Nollywood star,University Don join Okpekpe celebrity train

Leading Nollywood actress and presenter of Bold Faces on TV, Tricia Eseigbe and the vice chancellor of Ambrose Alli University,Ekpoma,Professor Onimawo Ignatius Akhakhia have joined the celebrity cast for the fifth Okpekpe international 10km road race which holds next month in Okpekpe near Auchi,Etsako East local government in Edo state.
Both Eseigbe and Professor Onimawo will not be running for the cash prizes on offer at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Bronze Label event but for charity.
