 KOT praise Simon Cheprot’s selfless heroics after ditching victory to rescue opponent

And it was a rather odd but touching action that stood out as peculiar in a world driven by profit and vicious success, that made long-distance Kenyan runner Simon Cheprot’s selfless act all the more special.

Cheprot, who was crowned champion in 2016, chose humanity over fame in the seventh edition of the Okpekpe Road Race held on Saturday, May 25 in Nigeria.

The lanky athlete abandoned the Okpekpe race inches from the finish line to help his compatriot Kenneth Kipkemoi, who had collapsed in front him after fatigue got the best of him. His rare deed branded an act of kindness by adoring fans, touched Kenyans on Twitter who took to social media to hail the courageous athletes efforts.
