Amstel Malta on Saturday rewarded the top six Nigerian winners at the Okpekpe International Road Race with cash prizes and branded items for their exceptional performance in the race.
The race, which was held in Benin, Edo state capital, featured over 3,000 runners from Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, Morocco, Israel, Bahrain and Nigeria, amongst others.
The six Nigerian athletes rewarded are Emmanuel Gyang, Gideon Goyet, Ismail Sodie, Deborah Pam, Rose Akusho and Hudung Gyang.
Speaking at the event, the Portfolio Manager, Non-Alcoholic Drinks, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Ngozi Nkwoji said: “We are proud of the performance of these six Nigerian athletes who have put in their best and have done so well to make us proud.”
“We endeavour to promote sports and activities that contribute to the overall wellbeing of Nigerians, which explains our partnership with the organizers of the race. Amstel Malta recognizes the capabilities of people and inspires them to always be their best, and here again we have demonstrated our commitment to helping people become their best by supporting this initiative. We are proud to be associated with the race, the athletes and the organizers,” she added.
The marathon, which started on Apana road and ended on Okpekpe road, also featured athletes from various countries who competed for top honours in the 10km race.
It will be recalled that the premium malt drink, Amstel Malta, is a major supporter of sports in Nigeria and will be doing same for the Super Eagles who will be representing the nation at the FIFA World Cup billed for June in Russia.
